Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is transmitted to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. Contra Costa County Criminal History does not keep or record those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message is retained as needed to answer it. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive standard technical information as pages are requested, including:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- A referring website, when one is provided
- The date and time of each request
Cookies and Analytics
Small cookie files and analytics services help measure aggregate use, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Browser controls can reject cookies. Disabling them may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
The information is used for ordinary operation and measurement, including:
- Operating the site and maintaining reasonable load times
- Routing a search request to the applicable partner tool
- Understanding which resources visitors use
- Diagnosing security, performance, and technical faults
- Presenting advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Contra Costa County Criminal History does not own, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It provides general directions to records kept by Contra Costa County courts and law enforcement, the California Department of Justice, and the California Megan's Law Website. California DOJ summary criminal-history dissemination is restricted by Penal Code section 11105, while official public records remain with their originating agencies. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not turned into a consumer report or a dossier about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Information submitted to a partner is governed by that company's privacy policy, retention rules, and disclosure practices rather than this policy. We do not direct those practices. Review the partner's terms before entering a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Contra Costa County offices, court portals, California DOJ resources, the California Megan's Law Website, legal-aid organizations, advertisers, or outside search tools. Once you leave this domain, the destination's privacy rules control. Read those rules before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may also use their own technology to recognize activity across websites and select interest-based ads. That processing occurs on provider systems.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data can be available to:
- Search providers that process a query you choose to submit
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
- Advertising networks that serve material on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement entities acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used safeguards protect the information under our control. No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it promptly.
Your Data Rights
California residents may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, Civil Code section 1798.100 et seq. Subject to the law's scope and exceptions, you may be able to:
- Request access to personal information held about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information

The California Public Records Act, Government Code division 10, sections 7920.000 through 7931.000, separately governs access to records held by California and Contra Costa County agencies. It does not convert this private website into a public agency.
