Terms of Use

These conditions govern access to this website. Visiting a page, reading its material, or submitting a search means you agree to them. If you do not agree, discontinue use of the site.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not connected with Contra Costa County, California, or any other government entity. Neither the site nor its advertising partners offer a service for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The site helps readers locate official criminal-record resources in Contra Costa County and California. It is neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation service.

1. What This Website Is

Contra Costa County Criminal History is an independent reference resource. It has no government affiliation, does not hold official criminal records, and cannot obtain an official background check or submit a court filing on a visitor's behalf.

Its role is to direct readers to offices and systems that maintain records, including Contra Costa County law enforcement and courts, the California Department of Justice, and the California Megan's Law Website. It may also connect readers to outside research tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you must not:

  • Use the site in violation of federal, California, or local law
  • Stalk, threaten, intimidate, or harass another person
  • Rely on site content for employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Deploy bots, scrapers, or other automated collection tools
  • Interfere with performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked resource may not be used to harass, stalk, threaten, intimidate, or unlawfully discriminate. This restriction is especially important for the California Megan's Law Website. Penal Code section 290.46 limits registry disclosure and misuse. Public safety information does not authorize vigilantism, blacklisting, or housing discrimination, and unlawful misuse can carry penalties.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

Contra Costa County Criminal History is not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and produces no credit report, background report, or other consumer report. The same is true of the services offered here by advertising partners. You agree not to use site or linked-tool information to:

  • Make a hiring, firing, or workplace-screening decision
  • Evaluate a renter, applicant, or other housing matter
  • Assess credit or establish an insurance rate
  • Determine access to a license, permit, benefit, or government program
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

A legally authorized check should be obtained through the California Department of Justice or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA and all applicable law.

5. No Legal Advice

Site content is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how a Contra Costa County charge, conviction, warrant, dismissal, sealing rule, or expungement process applies to an individual. Consult a California-licensed attorney for advice about a specific matter.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • Information will always be accurate, complete, or current
  • The website will operate without interruption
  • Pages will be free from errors or security weaknesses
  • A partner's results will be complete or correct

Criminal records can change as charges are filed, amended, dismissed, sealed, or subject to relief. Official status must be confirmed with the Contra Costa County or California agency that created and maintains the record. Nothing here is an official statement from a court, sheriff, California DOJ, or other public body.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to Contra Costa County offices, California agencies, courts, legal-aid providers, advertisers, and outside search services. Those destinations are beyond our control. We are not responsible for their availability, charges, content, results, or handling of personal data. Their terms apply once you leave this domain.

8. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise stated, the text, code, graphics, and logos on this site belong to Contra Costa County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, altered, distributed, or used to create derivative work without prior written authorization.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the fullest extent allowed by California law, we are not responsible for losses arising from use of the site, including action taken in reliance on content here or on a linked service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from claims, demands, proceedings, costs, and reasonable legal fees arising from your use of the website or your breach of these terms.

11. Governing Law

California law governs these terms. Any dispute concerning use of the website must be brought in a court with proper jurisdiction in California.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised. A revision becomes effective when the updated text is posted on this page.

Effective date: July 16, 2026

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, with or without advance notice, when we determine that action is appropriate.

14. Severability

If a court finds one provision invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in force. The affected term will be narrowed only as necessary to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
